Are all exhaust downpipes interchangeable from one to another 1991 Volkswagen Jetta (Wolfsburg)?

We had a heck of a time trying to find an exhaust manifold for our 91 Volkswagen Jetta; it was ridiculous. I guess it was made in California, so it was made differently than other manifolds? So, we had a guy in Washington pick the exhaust manifold and downpipe off of a 91 Volkswagen he's got and he's shipping it to us. I am hoping this manifold and downpipe will be compatible with out vehicle. Are downpipes usually interchangeable from car to car, if the two are the same year, make and model? Our old manifold had a four-bolt flange, which is square.This new one he is sending has, from what the guy says, a circular flat piece that has clips to hold it down (?) I am hoping these will be compatable. Any advice?

It will bolt on, but you will have to get a non cali down pipe and possible converter.That manifold with the clips is the most restrictive manifold VW made, most people take em off and use a older dual exhaust manifold off a old Rabbit, worth about 10-15 HP, but you would still have to get the right downpipe -converter set up
