DEL SOL half shaft or trans axle grinding and not moving?

i have a 93 del sol with a b18b1 and a b16 tranny the half shaft or transaxle what ever its called is making a grinding noise behind the wheel not by the tranny. will i have to replace the axle or is there some thing in the disks. i have tried to remove the boot but its on pretty good and dont know how to remove it when i mess with the boot i hear metal tapping on the axle itself but i dunno any thoughts or suggestions

I'd guess that the splines are worn down too much or gone on the half shaft. They may also not mesh correctly in a bad case? (If so think about finding a GSR trans?) Invest in a good swap book or hit up any Honda forum to see if your shims and whatnot are right for the engine/trans combo. Since the del Sol front end is the same underneath as an equivalent year civic and you have a b18 in there your axle spacing probably needs some compensation in there for alignment. Sometimes the half shaft required is a totally different length even.
