A wideband is a "MUST" for all turbo cars because nothing melts a piston faster than improper tuning when turning up the boost. To little fuel is a catastrophic situation that leads to major damage to your engine and we all know the costs associated with building a new engine!! What does a wideband do? A wideband UEGO (Universal Exhaust Gas Oxygen) sensor controller accurately monitors Air/Fuel ratios (AFR) during the tuning process to prevent a lean fuel mixture, which could lead to engine damage.

We put together the following article to show you the proper way to install the wideband, installation is fairly straight forward and shouldn't take more than a couple of hours, remember to decide beforehand the route you plan on using for the wiring to ensure a clean installation.

The first thing you want to do before installing the UEGO is change the gauge configuration (face plate & bezel)

Place the gauge anywhere inside of a 2" hole (pillar or custom mounting place)

There are 2 wiring harness with the kit. The short is used for the functions on the gauge and the longer one hooks up to the UEGO sensor.

Hook up the 2 harness to the back of the gauge. (6 pin and 4 pin)

Run the longer harness through the firewall.

Use C shape holder to tighten the gauge on the back.

Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

Remove downpipe and weld the M18x1.5 bug at least 36 inches from the exhaust side of turbo and on a 10 degree angle (minimum).

Screw in the UEGO sensor into the bung on the downpipe.

Connect the end of the UEGO sensor to the end of the 6 wire harness from the gauge.

Now its time to wire up the 4 pin harness.

-RED (Power) Connect to a 10v-18v power source.

-BLACK (Ground) Connect to a clean grounding point.

-WHITE(Analog Output) Connects to any auxiliary unit with a 0-5v input.

-BLUE(Serial Output) Connects to a RS-232 com port. (This output is optional)

Connect back the negative (-) battery cable.

Start car and let the motor warm up for more then 20 seconds now your ready to start tuning!

What difference will fitting unequal stainless steel exhaust headers to my Subaru impreza?

Iv got a stainless centre and back box, and will have a Decat downpipe soon but just want to know what sort of difference if any the headers I bought will make.

If you get equal length headers, you will get more of a performance gain but loose the boxer rumble. With unequal length, you will get some gains, but also retain the boxer rumble. In my opinion, I would not trade the boxer rumble for any amount of hp gain. I pride my car on not sounding like a honda civic, and I plan to keep it that way.
