Here are some more information for Camry Catalytic Converter:

Do you live in an area where you car has to meet inspection requirements? Normally your vehicle will also have to pass emissions requirements. This article will help explain what emissions are, and how to fix a possible problem your vehicle may have.
Emissions are simply the exhaust or leftovers of combustion coming out of your vehicle's engine. An emissions test is normally done with a probe placed into the exhaust tailpipe. The emission sampler will "sniff" or sample the contents of the exhaust coming out of the tailpipe. Every road going vehicle produced, has certain clean requirements that it is required to meet. This requirement is specified by EPA to limit the amount of pollutants exiting the vehicle.
Most emission samplers are five gas analyzers. That means they "see" or measure five types of gases. The five gases that will be measured are HC, NOX, O2, CO, and CO2. We will start with HC or hydrocarbons. HC's are simply another term for unburned fuel that makes it through the engine and out the exhaust. HC's cause smog and and are not good to breath. NOX means oxides of Nitrogen. NOX is a by product of highly heated and compressed air that has nitrogen in it. NOX is another bad emission to breath at high levels. O2 is leftover unburned oxygen in the exhaust. Although O2 is obviously not bad, it is tested for to look for people trying to cheat the test.
The percentage of oxygen in the exhaust will also tell the fuel ratio of the engine as it runs. CO and CO2 is carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. CO is odorless and will give you headaches and eventually kill you by robbing O2 from your body, if in high quantities. CO2 is present in the air but large amounts contribute to global warming. Before doing any emission test the check engine soon light, should never light up or it will cause the car to fail. HC's are usually the worst problem for cars that will have to pass the test.
Many things can produce high HC's such as too much or even too little fuel, not all cylinders firing, advanced timing, bad catalytic converter, or an air pump that isn't working. These are the most common causes. Tune up's can prevent most emission problems. NOX is generally worse on higher compression engines. All engines produce NOX but the use of EGR valves will cool and slow down the burn rate of the engine's combustion. This considerably lowers NOX values.
O2 levels are controlled by the fuel ratio being correct from the fuel injection. If there is an exhaust leak all the test numbers will be low and incorrect except the high O2 numbers which will void the test. CO has to do with the efficiency of the burn in the engine and also is highly effected by the fuel to air ratio of the engine. CO2 is also an indicator of the engines set up. The HC's and NOX are by far the largest problem areas. Catalytic converters scrub or clean the majority of the emissions and need to be replaced when they break internally causing a loss in power and no longer clean the air.

China’s 10 Most Unpopular Cars
As of the first six months of 2007, 34 new car models have blown the Chinese market, and 21 of those were remake versions. Only a few among those shone and some were washed out going to the Top 10 Most Unpopular Cars in China.
1. Honda's Acura TL
It sold less than 200 units during the first half of the year. Reports say Acura had unsuccessful marketing strategy. Acura TL's advanced equipment, like the intelligent key and navigation system, were applied only on the demand of customers who would pay the bill. This could be the very reason why Acura got low sales.
2. Mitsubishi Galant
The Galant has a half-year result of 4062 units, not even half of Toyota Camry's monthly sales, though both models belong to the same D-segment.
3. Fiat Perla
For the first time, Italian automaker chose China as an all-new model's debut place. Perla, with probably good Fiat catalytic converter, has half-year sales of around 2,000 units. Perla got its name as "car of revival" for the loss-making Nanjing Fiat Automobile. Unfortunately, for its similarity with Fiat Siena, which is RMB20, 000 cheaper than Perla, customers are reluctant to buy this new car. Perla has monthly sales of only 300 units, far below the company's expectation.
4. Kia Rio
Automaker Dongfeng Kia, expected to sell over 5000 units per month, but since it's launch early this year, Rio is selling only 4,996 units up to now.
5. FAW VItz
VItz only had 904 units of sales. Toyota’s announcement on its plan to put the new Yaris into production next year threatens Vitz, which actually is the same model. Under the extreme competition from Polo, Fit and Peugeot 206, Vitz's sales are declining since its introduction in late 2002.
6. Suzuki Liana
Its half year sales are only 5,416 units. Last month, Changhe Suzuki sold a record-low 387 units of Liana.
7. Hyundai Sonata
Beijing Hyundai sold 7,808 units of Sonata. This model is successful in the European and American markets, but not in China.
8. Ford S-Max
A wholesale volume of 2,260 units was earned by this minivan. S-Max's sales in the launching month of March topped 1,000 units, but later declined to 173 units in June.
9. Toyota Prius
The prohibitive price and the yet-unformed eco-fashion restricted Toyota Prius' half-year sales of176 units. The RMB300, 000 sedans discourage the consumers due to the relatively small 1.5L engines. People in China would rather buy a well-equipped high or medium-level sedan.
10. GM Park Avenue
SAIC GM sold only 934 units of Park Avenue during the first six months. Park Avenue was set to replace Buick Royaum as the newest flagship model. The latter was out of production in order to pave way for Park Avenue, but consumer doubt about its origin and lack of marketing baulked the highly-expected sedan.
Majority of those cars experienced price cuts, but did not prosper still.

My 1996 toyota camry may have bad catalytic converter or oxygen sensor?
My check engine light has been coming on in my Camry> my car has 120k miles on it. I just bought it recently last month. Car was well maintained and my mechanic looked at the engine said it was in good shape. Anyway, I had a Sears mechanic plug a device up to the engine to see where the problem is occuring. He says its either the catalytic converter or the oxygen 2 sensor. Catalytic converters are expensive! $1500! They told me not to worry about it because they said the engine runs and sounds great! They were surprised on how well the engine sounded. They also told me to leave it alone. They said if it is oxygen sensor then it wont harm the engine but your engine light will stay on. Which annoys me. Does anyone have any expert advice here? There are no funny smells, no rattling, no white or black smoke coming out of exhaust,no stalling...car runs very good. It does vibrate a little at intersections. Do you think its the catalytic converter? I need an expert opinion.
That mechanic is an idiot. You can get a generic O2 sensor for $40 http://www.autozone.com/R,APP233743/vehicleId,2145801/initialAction,partProductDetail/store,1108/partType,00117/shopping/partProductDetail.htm
And a Catalytic converter for $85. http://www.autozone.com/R,APP117982/vehicleId,2145801/initialAction,partProductDetail/store,1108/partType,00071/shopping/partProductDetail.htm
That car is at the age where you'd expect those two things to need replacing.
You might see if Midas will give you a good price.
Those links are for the 4 cylider. If you have a 6, it'll be slightly different.
